This particular weaving reveals the floating contours of Boneset (Eupatorium perfoliatum), blooming in a restored prairie in Hickory Hill Park, Iowa City, Iowa. The video was recorded on September 13, 2021, beginning at 4:43 pm for 12 minutes.

Living in the Midwest from 2017 - 2022 continues to influence me in profound ways. Home to the North American prairie, modern Iowa is one of the most eco-altered locales in the world. Prairie once covered 79.5% of the state and now less than 0.1% remains, as remnant and sanctuary. I have spent time observing the prairie and considering its delicate, potent presence as well as myriad acts of preservation and ongoing restoration. Working in fiber evokes physical and time-based processes connected to the rhythms of natural history; materials are continuously animated through the body, composing moments of place, relationship and repair.
