Floating Instrument #4 is part in a series of ceramic and paper woven objects. The structure is formed and fired in porcelain, then woven with thread (silk and mohair). As the warp is supported by the clay body, the process of moving needle and thread through as weft chirps a light, crisp sound of taut thread resonating within the vessel. The sound is vibration and pattern, made possible as the body contains structure and the thread, a capacity for movement.
